Masterclass #2: Linn Ullmann

Helsinki Lit and the association Konstsamfundet continue their commitment to literary masterclasses in 2025, this time featuring the Norwegian author Linn Ullmann. She will visit Amos Anderson’s home in Helsinki on May 13 to discuss her authorship in an in-depth conversation with Helsinki Lit’s program director, Philip Teir.

Linn Ullmann has written several autobiographically inspired novels, most recently Girl, 1983 (2022). Ullmann is the daughter of film director Ingmar Bergman and actress Liv Ullmann. Among her most well-known works are Before You Sleep and Unquiet. The latter is based on the author’s summers with her father on Fårö, Gotland, and was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2016. Linn Ullmann has previously lived in New York, where she studied at New York University, but she now resides in Oslo.

Once again, we welcome all interested individuals to apply for the masterclass, which is primarily aimed at writers, translators, and aspiring authors. Submit a freely formulated application of up to 1,500 characters, preferably at least 500 characters, explaining why you wish to participate. Applications should be sent to masterclass@helsinki-lit.fi no later than April 13. Applications may be written in Finnish, Swedish, or English. Participants will be selected by representatives from Helsinki Lit, the publishing house Otava, and Konstsamfundet.

During the event, there will be an opportunity to ask Linn Ullmann questions and have books signed.
