Helsinki Lit and Konstsamfundet continue their series of masterclasses on literature. This time, Helsinki will be visited by Swedish horror master John Ajvide Lindqvist, who has become widely loved for his horror-themed novels – from vampires in Blackeberg to mermaids in the Swedish archipelago. Recently, Tomas Alfredson’s film adaptation of his debut novel Let the Right One In was named one of the best films of the millennium by The New York Times.
John Ajvide Lindqvist has been praised by none other than Stephen King, to whom he is often compared, and since the beginning of his writing career – after a decade as a stand-up comedian and magician – he has established himself as one of the very best in his genre.
In recent years, he has ventured into crime fiction, with an action-packed trilogy that has impressed both readers and critics. This autumn, the “hillbilly horror” novel Svinen will be released – a short novel of 100 pages marking Lindqvist’s return to horror literature.
Meet John Ajvide Lindqvist in an author conversation with Philip Teir, where they will discuss suspense, plot, and what makes a story work.
For the masterclass, which will be held on Tuesday, September 16 at 3 p.m., 30 participants will be accepted, as in previous years. The conversation will be in English. Participation is free of charge. Submit a freely formulated application to masterclass@helsinki-lit.fi no later than August 24 (maximum 1,500 characters).
