Silvia Hosseini is a writer, book critic and teacher based in Tampere, Finland. Her debute Pölyn ylistys (”In Praise of Dust”), a collection of personal essays on literature and popular culture, was released in 2018. It was awarded the Kalevi Jäntti Prize in 2018, and was also nominated for the Helsingin Sanomat Literature Prize.
Hosseini’s second collection of essays Tie, totuus ja kuolema (”The Way, the Truth, and Death”) was released in March 2021 by Gummerus Publishers and was nominated for the Toisinkoinen Literature Prize. Kirjallisuuden kiihottava historia (”An Arousing History of Literature”), a history of erotic literature, was released October 2023. It was awarded the Lauri Jäntti’s Recognition Award for Nonfiction.
Common themes in Hosseini’s work include travel, history and popular culture. Her writing has been called perceptive, passionate, humorous and unruly.
Hosseini has taught creative essay writing, participated in many public discussions and podcasts, given public speeches on literature, literacy, society and politics, and hosted various events.
